How to leave my gambling boyfriend
It will be fucking impossible to reconcile that. The injustice will threaten to kill you. And you knew nothing at all about it. So on top of everything else, you feel pretty stupid yourself. You will be caught up in a whirlwind of regrets, what ifs and if onlys.
I don’t date people who have active addictions. I do actively look for signs of active addiction when I am in the early stages of dating. Choosing not to go any further.
Your contributions will help us continue to deliver the stories that are important to you. But I am immediately transported back to a state of anxiety. I think of my ex boyfriend and get upset at the thoughts that he is most likely gambling on the races. It brings me back to driving him to work this time last year, with ads on the radio encouraging betting. I play out various scenarios in my head of how he is coping these days, each ending with a state of unknown.
We no longer speak. I spent three years of my life all consumed by him. Now I no longer know if he is dead or alive. It may seem drastic but the high rate of suicide in addiction is a reality I have to acknowledge. I met my boyfriend and fell in love, but loving him came with a price. I did not understand gambling addiction and I was naive in thinking that the addiction was present within the four walls of a bookies or a screen.

She sent him hundreds of emails threatening his ex-wife, children and mother if she didn’t get cash. In her police interview, Zakhour told police the stories about the blueberry farm, tobacco and Malaysian worker were made up because the man kept giving her money.
One said he felt “shell shocked” and her actions ruined his life and another said her “heinous” deeds ruined him. During the pre-sentence hearing at the Victorian County Court, Zakhour wiped her eyes as she sat in her lawyer’s office. Her barrister said the money went to fund her gambling addiction, and she was embarrassed and ashamed about what she had done. She wrote an apology letter to her victims, spent the past 18 months volunteering at a soup kitchen, and paid back her victims about 10 per cent of what they had lost.
Problem Gambling and Gambling Addiction
I’ve been dating my boyfriend for several months and am greatly concerned about his gambling. Be it when he’s online or at the casino, it’s gambling that is consuming his time, and interfering with my time with him. If I call him, he doesn’t answer because he’s playing poker. Or if he neglects to call me, it’s because he’s playing poker and has forgotten all about contacting me. Even if I go over to visit his house, he is playing online poker for money. He’s disappointed and mad that he doesn’t have the money to buy things and do things.

I was in shock that he owed that much. I met his family a year and a half into dating and last february I approached them about this serious issue – I went and saw a therapist who specializes in this type of situation with his sister and when I approached him about it he was very mad. I told him he could lose me if he continues. He tried GA once when his family was involved and felt that everyone there was a loser and he wasn’t like them. Clearly he is in denial.
I have tried to talk to him about it nicely, with anger, softly and none of it works – he is clearly not ready to deal with that fact this is an issue. He is constantly checking scores online, on tv and watching sports.

My wife has a gambling addiction — and that night, it came to a head.
Some forums can only be seen by registered members. Who here has experience with these types? I suspect the person I am currently dating is a gambling addict. The last three times we have had lengthy discussions, he has brought up betting on football. Now I have known people who bet in football pools or other forms of gambling – and I have done it myself – but it has always been the sort of thing that comes up in conversation once a year.
I last saw this guy last Sunday, and as we watched football and chatted I learned he knew the line for every single game being played that day. I am prepared to give this guy the boot or at least tell him we can hang out every now and again but we will never be a couple , but I want to make sure I am not being an alarmist. I am unfamiliar with gambling as a vice.
Is it unusual to be this preoccupied with gambling, or am is he merely a football junkie making conversation? I don’t see myself with this guy long term anyway, but he’s fun for now. That said, everytime I hear something about gambling I start wondering if this guy is going to cost me money someday

We can’t pretend things did not happen. But we can forgive, learn, and heal. All of us can. We may have different levels of pain and hurt, but that is not the important thing Getting over the pain is healing. We are a product of thoughts, actions and feelings. To effect change, we only need to change one — You killed all the good that was left in me and you still have the audacity to ask me why I’m such a cold-hearted bitch. It’s amazing how some people can continue to lie in your face repeatedly when you already know the truth.
